Marie-Philip Poulin scored Canada’s two goals, and goaltender Shannon Szabados was the best player for either team with 28 saves.
Canada finished with a 29-28 edge in shots, though the Americans had the better of the chances.
Poulin scored on a wrist shot over U.S. goaltender Jessie Vetter’s glove at 13:55 the next off a faceoff scramble at 16:50 both in the first period.
This was the Canadians’ third consecutive Olympic gold after the Americans’ only victory in Nagano, Japan.
